Thursday was compost day:
Together with @stasiajulie and Jojo from @wemakethebestoutotofyourshit we had an interesting tour at @kunz_baumschulen_und_kompost in Uster, Switzerland where we could see how they make compost using efficient machines. We

After the human solid waste got collected at the customers by the EkoLakay team, it has to be treated safely at SOIL’s composting site. The buckets must be dumped into large composting bins and then washed.
We have proposed a few modifications

The entire Bonzodè (dry cover material) production process is divided into many small work steps. They all take place in a big hangar, which sometimes leads to confusion and disturbs a continuous production.

SOIL’s mobile toilets use sugarcane as dry cover material. Before usage it must be sieved so that no large pieces end up in the buckets at the customers houses. Sieving the raw material by hand is a long and labour intensive process. A simple r

EkoLakay is the container based sanitation service by @soilhaiti. It uses dry cover material and works without a sewage system. The service provides a weekly tour where full buckets are picked up from the customers and clean ones are brought to them,

In February 2020 we went for a project with @soilhaiti to Cap Haitien, Haiti. Our mission was and still is to review their existing mobile sanitation system and make modifications to improve SOILs sanitation service called EkoLakay.

The production of the cover material for SOIL’s mobile sanitation service is a long and labour-intensive work: The sugar cane from the local distillery has to be sieved, ground, mixed with compost and filled in the buckets for the customers.
