Umweltsünden auf der Spur– Das Leben hält Verführungen bereit, die jeden einmal zu einer kleineren oder grösseren Sünde hinreissen lassen. Der Ökobeichtstuhl ist ein Scientainment-Konzept der ZHAW mit dem Ziel, auf unterhaltsame Weise und mit einem Augenzwinkern ein breites Publikum für umweltschonendere Verhaltensweisen im Alltag zu sensibilisieren.
Der Ökobeichtstuhl ist eine begehbare «Box», die als mobile und zerlegbare Einheit an zahlreichen Anlässen und Ausstellungen aufgebaut wird. Unsere Aufgabe als Designer war, diesen mobilen Raum zu konzeptionieren und zu realisieren.

Von aussen ist der Beichtstuhl farbig und poppig und zieht dadurch die Blicke der Besucher auf sich. Erst bei näherem Hinsehen wird ersichtlich, dass die vielen Quadrate an der Fassade aus verschiedensten Abfallmaterialien bestehen. Betritt man den Beichtstuhl, taucht man in einen dunklen, mystischen und intimen Raum ein, der einen ungestörten Rahmen für die spielerische Auseinandersetzung mit dem interaktiven Touchscreen und den eigenen Ökosünden bietet.

Environmental sins on the track – Life holds many seductions and from time to time it lets us commit sins, some are small and some might be a little bigger. But which sins are really relevant in an ecological meaning? What is the damage? And what can each one of us do to prevent these sins and contribute to a more sustainable society? The eco-confessional-box is an innovative scientainment concept to sensitise an audience that haven’t dealt with questions concerned about sustainability so far. It aims to sensitise the audience in an entertaining way, with a twinkle in the eye, for a environmental friendly behaviour in the everyday life. The eco-confessional-box is not preachy, instead it gives suggestions in a playful way how to make ecological decisions and how they can be integrated in the daily routine. The main element is the accessible completely mobile confessional-box that can be used in public for special occasions and exhibitions.

Our task as designers was to create a concept for this movable space and build it accordingly. To attract visitors, the outside of the eco-confessional-box is colourful, fancy and very eye-catching. Only a closer look reveals that the numerous squares that are fixed on the outside are made of various waste materials. The facade invites to explore and rack but as soon as you enter the eco-confessional-box , you dive into a dark, mystic and intimate space that establishes a setting for a playful examination with one’s own ecological sins.
